Educator Bio

Brent Flinchbaugh is the director of bands at Clarksville Middle School in Clarksville, Maryland.  At CMS, he conducts the award winning Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Concert Band.  Each year the CMS Wind Ensemble earns superior ratings at festivals including Music in the Parks and Howard County Assessment.  Before teaching at Clarksville, Brent was on faculty of Thunder Hill Elementary School and Atholton Elementary School in Howard County as well as the Pennsylvania School for the Arts, Boys Latin School, St. Paul's School, and Goucher College. Most years Brent serves as a mentor teacher for the Peabody Conservatory and Towson University student teachers.

In Howard County, Brent has served as co-director of both the GT Wind Ensemble and Honor Band.  In addition to these positions, he has been a guest conductor in Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association and is often a clinician for schools throughout the mid-Atlantic region.  Brent was the co-winner of the Howard County Music Educator of the Year award presented by Howard County Parents for School Music.

In addition to band directing, Brent has a large and successful private trumpet studio consisting of some of the finest young players in Maryland who consistently earn first chair positions in All-State ensembles.  Students in the Flinchbaugh Trumpet Studio also regularly earn positions in Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestra, Howard County Youth Orchestra, Peabody Youth Wind Ensemble and Orchestra, among other ensembles.  He has taught students who are now or have been scholarship-winning trumpet performance majors at Northwestern University, Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Shenandoah Conservatory, and University of Maryland.
